John Callcutt has been appointed chief executive of English Partnerships (EP). Callcutt, who is deputy chairman of Crest Nicholson, will take up the post on 2 May for three years.
EP chairman Margaret Ford said: “John is a very big player in our field and brings to us his wealth of knowledge and experience working in the regeneration sector.
“After four years of sustained growth in productivity, we needed a highly credible individual to take us on to our next phase of delivery.”
Deputy prime minister John Prescott said: “John has shown immense calibre and empathy with the concept of creating sustainable communities, through his work with Crest Nicholson.”
Callcutt added: “This kind of opportunity comes along only once in a career. I have a real passion and commitment to urban regeneration and sustainability. The challenge of leading the delivery of some of the UK’s most complex regeneration projects was simply irresistible.”
He will resign from Crest Nicholson with effect from 31 March.
