Council workers set strike date


Local authority building workers have fixed next Tuesday, 28 March, for a national one-day strike over pension entitlements.

The strike follows a 90% vote in favour of industrial action among members of UCATT.

The builders will being joining thousands of other council employees in the day of action.

Alan Ritchie, UCATT general secretary, commented: “Craft workers are determined to defend their benefits in the local government pension scheme.

“Our members work in a pressurised and physical part of local government. The nature of their work impacts on their health.

“That is why it is important to retain the right to retire at 60 years of age on a full pension.”
