Arup software provides supply chain link-up

Arup has launched software to involve the supply chain in the construction process. Alongside Gehry Technologies and software firm CenitDesktop, the company plans to involve suppliers and subcontractors with a single three-dimensional model.

CJ reported last month that the steel industry is developing a plan to deal with firms receiving designs without fundamental data (CJ 15 February).

A CenitDesktop spokesman told CJ some major projects are held up by a lack of communication along the supply chain. He said: “Construction is complicated and one of the tricks is to keep the software as simple as possible. One way of doing it is to have the same drawings. If you look at Wembley Stadium, if they used a single model they wouldn’t have been in so much trouble.”
