Record times for NMC

North Midland Construction (NMC) has reported a record year, both for turnover and profitability.

Robert Moyle, chairman, said: “All elements of the group traded profitably and the return of the building subsidiary to former levels of profitability was particularly satisfying.”

Turnover in the 12 months to 31 December 2005 climbed to £150m (2004 figure: £110m) while pre-tax profit moved up to £3.9m (2004: £3.3m). Looking ahead, NMC has a secured workload worth £120m and has “great confidence” in the prospects for the year ahead.

NMC has four operating divisions. In civil engineering, the largest of these, turnover ran to £54m. Its operations recently expanded into the waste sector and NMC has successfully completed a £6m project at Bidstone, Liverpool.

NMC’s highways division found itself in a difficult market last year which resulted in “a debilitating drop” in turnover, the result of a lack of tendering opportunities. As a result, profitability fell. However the Highways Agency extended the AmScott consortium’s Area 7 contract until 2008. NMC is part of AmScott.

Building’s turnover climbed to £32m. Currently the largest-ever individual contract is being constructed, valued at £27m, for student accommodation in Lincoln. the first phase has already been delivered both to time and budget.
