Oxford University granted another injunction at research site

The University of Oxford has been granted a further injunction by the High Court to ensure that animal rights protestors at the building site of its biomedical research facility do not disturb students taking exams at the campus.

Construction work finally began again on the £18m scheme in November last year after original firm Montpellier left the job in June 2004 following threats to shareholders. The contractors currently working on the project have not been named due to security reasons.

The new order, awarded by Mr Justice Holland, prohibits campaigners from congregating or picketing within 100 yards of the examination schools on the High Street or at Ewert House in Summertown between 18 April and 20 July and 10 September and 31 October.

The High Court decision follows a previous injunction the university won which banned protestors from using klaxons, sirens, whistles, noise amplification devices and other instruments within the exclusion zone on South Parks Road.
