Once again, environmental issues will be high on the agenda in the Site Clearance Zone. Paul Howard reports on the latest technology that will be on show at SED.
The combined impact of the continuing emphasis on recycling – in construction as in other facets of life – and the need to develop brownfield sites means the popularity of the Site Clearance Zone continues to grow. There are at least 20 exhibitors with a recycling theme to their exhibits, and 16 of these are in the Site Clearance Zone itself.
Perhaps the most persuasive evidence that the Site Clearance Zone – and SED – has a powerful allure is the presence of first-time SED exhibitor Kormann Rockster, which has come all the way from Austria.
The focus of the company’s stand will be its range of mobile crushing and screening systems. Machines on display will include the R900 track-mounted impact crusher, the Duplex-System R900-R800 and the R700 Container-Mobile Impact Crusher.
The R900 can cope with materials up to 900mm x 720mm and has a heavy duty, four-hammer hard-aggregate rotor, making operations possible not only in standard recycling applications, but also in areas involving hard or abrasive aggregates.
The Duplex system offers the chance to combine the R900 with the R800 jaw crusher. Both units can be installed on the same basic frame, allowing the impact crusher to be transformed into a jaw crusher or vice versa.
With a feed inlet measuring 700mm x 650mm, the R700 container-mobile impact crusher is designed for smaller-scale recycling applications in suburban and urban areas. The company already has dealers in the UK, but will be using SED to extend this network if possible.
Also coming from far afield is Italian manufacturer Officine Meccaniche di Ponzano Veneto. The company will be exhibiting the Apollo 1050x730 tracked jaw crusher. The machine features the Non-Stop hydraulic safety system and can be used for recycling demolition materials and treating quarry products.
Another overseas visitor will be Triace from the Republic of Ireland. The company will use SED as the first opportunity to exhibit SpeedClean, which it describes as a new concept in powerwashing. The high-reach pressure washer is designed to be mounted on to a wide variety of tractors and has a 3,000-litre water bowser, producing more than 300bar. It also has a high-reach boom meaning cleaning tall buildings is now possible.
The concept is based on a series of modular components so that each part of the machine can be supplied separately, allowing a contractor to purchase only what is necessary according to the job in hand and its existing fleet.
Across the border in Northern Ireland, McCloskey International has been preparing a number of machines for both exhibition and demonstration at SED. The award-winning 407 Trommel will return to the show after scooping an SED Award for Excellence last year. It will be joined on the stand by the 123 Track Sizer, a Minisizer and a Kompaq machine. The company will also have a live demonstration area featuring three machines being put through their paces: a 412 Trommel, a Kompaq and a Minisizer.
Also from Northern Ireland, Herbst Machinery will be exhibiting its new Mini Recycling Screener Machine, the Compac 8140. The towable machine comes with a three-cylinder Deutz air-cooled engine, foldable side and rear discharge conveyors for ease of transport and four, hydraulically jackable legs for quick set-up on uneven ground. Also on the stand will be a full range of the company’s other products, including dump trailers, low loaders, dump loaders, mini dump loaders and gravel trailers.
The third in the triumvirate of Ulster-based companies in the Site Clearance Zone, although now part of a US-owned conglomerate, is Terex Finlay. The company’s stand will be filled with machines from its mobile crushing, screening, washing and recycling equipment product lines, including the J-1175 jaw crusher. The machine is fitted with a 1,070mm x 760mm Jaques crusher chamber and a heavy-duty undercarriage, a heavy-duty vibrating grizzly feeder with automatic regulation, and hydrostatic drive with reverse crushing action to assist in clearing blockage.
Moving back across the Irish Sea to Britain, several more companies have been attracted to the Site Clearance Zone at SED for the first time.
King Feeders is making its debut at the show and will be exhibiting its Compact Screener, Eco Green Composting Machine and a range of Digger Crusher Buckets. The high-capacity compact screener is available on a high-speed towing chassis with twist locks, allowing the machine to be removed from the trailer via its hydraulic legs. Lowering the machine to the ground reduces the loading height of the input hopper to a minimum.
The Zago Eco Green Composter aims to simplify green waste recycling, while making it more reliable and cost-effective. It shreds, mulches and mixes bio-degradable products, from grass mowings, waste paper and soil to 250mm diameter tree loppings, pallets and tree roots. The volume of material is reduced by the ratio of approximately 7:1 for the preparation of composting material or tip capping. The material can also be reloaded and mixed with other products before being applied to the ground.
Liston Equipment will also be making its first appearance at the show as importers and distributors for the US manufactured range of Carlton stump grinders. Along with new products comes new technology in the form of the cutting system designed by Carlton in collaboration with Sandvik. Also on its stand will be wood chippers and possibly a Woodsman drum chipper, also imported from the US.
More stump grinders will be on display on the Arbor Plant stand, with three models of the company’s own Predator brand – the 26, 50 and 75. A remote-control option will also be on display and a 4x4 unit may also make it to the show prior to its launch later in the summer. The company’s multi-tip cutting wheel system, which can be retrofitted onto most makes of stump grinder, will also be on display.
While looking of this kind of product, consider also the BE Recycling stand, the UK and European distributor for the Bandit range of wood chippers, wood shredders and stump grinders.
If it’s flail mowers and hedge cutters you want, head to the Weaving Machinery stand. A full range will be on show, designed to fit tractors from 7.5kW to 224kW, as well as forestry flails that can cut through trees up to 300mm in diameter. A wide selection of concrete mixers and self-erecting tower cranes will also be on display.
Another varied selection of machines will be on show on the CRMS stand. A new model to add to the company’s existing range of Allu recycling buckets will be exhibited, as will the Dynaset range of hydraulic magnets that can be fitted to excavators and cranes. Information will also be available covering two more products targeting the recycling and site clearance sector: the Rubblemaster range of crushers and the Bagela Asphalt Recycler, commended in this year’s SED Awards for Excellence.
The winning entry in the recycling category of this year’s SED awards came from Red Rhino Crushers and the winning machine – the 4017 Micro Crusher – will be on the company’s stand alongside the well-established 5000 series Mini Crusher. There will also be a chance to cast your eye over a prototype of a tracked dumper to load the new Micro Crusher, and the company is also seeking to expand its range at the larger end of the spectrum with a 7000 series machine due for launch by the end of the year.
Regular SED visitor Anross will use the show this year to unveil and demonstrate its relaunched Auto-Segregator buckets. Among other modifications, the new buckets will have their model numbers more closely aligned with the size of excavator they are designed to fit. They will also feature a new colour scheme, replacing the current Henry Ford approach: ‘Any colour you like as long as it’s black.’
Baughan’s Barrel Screens will have a busy stand at this year’s show, as well as a live demonstration area. Pride of place will be given to the new roll-on/roll-off single toggle jaw crusher. With a 760mm x 380mm jaw, the unit weighs in at less than 14t for ease of transport and manoeuvrability. A new Mammoth trommel screen with a 5m-long screening area and the company’s buckets crusher, now with tungsten teeth that improve productivity by around 20%, will also be on display.
On the CGCS stand, in addition to machines from TIM Envipro and Screen Machine Industries, visitors will be able to take a look at the first Rubblebuster S3R impact crusher from South African manufacturer Pilot Crushtec to be exhibited in the UK.
Meanwhile, Blue Machinery will exhibit kit as varied as Backhus composting technology, BRINI ‘classifiers’, Doppstadt chippers, shredders and mixers, RDF production machinery, OM mobile crushing plants and Powerscreen trommels, screening, washing and recycling equipment.
Don’t forget, too, that Hydrex, the sole dealer in the UK and Ireland for the Fuchs range of rehandling machines, will be exhibiting a selection of machines from its extensive range.
Finally, Extec will be exhibiting its C series jaw crushers, Impactor, S-5 Doublescreen, Robotrac and E-7 screener. Visitors will also be able to view the C12 jaw crusher and E7 screener in a live demonstration area, and the company is also promising an appearance by a ‘mystery machine’.
And if that’s not enough to entice you to the Site Clearance Zone, surely nothing is.
