Wembley steel workers return to site

Steel workers employed by Fast Track for Hollandia on the £757m Wembley stadium project have returned to work after two days off the site.

Around 50 workers were told on Monday that they wouldn’t be paid for work carried out last week by employment agency Fast Track; the company has since gone into liquidation claiming it is owed over £1m by steel subcontractor Hollandia.

As a result of the lack of payment, including outstanding holiday pay, the workers refused to return to site until the situation was resolved.

Hollandia has cited issues with payment from main contractor Multiplex for its problems with Fast Track - a claim the Australian company totally refutes, stating it has paid Hollandia in full to date.

However, Hollandia has agreed to pay the wages of the workers so that the remaining steel work on the contract can be completed in time for the planned completion date of September.

In a statement Multiplex said: “I can confirm that following discussions between our subcontractor Hollandia and the unions, the 50 steel workers have now returned to work at Wembley Stadium.

“We are pleased those affected now have security of employment while they complete their remaining works on site.”
