Atkins appointed to undertake Glasgow Subway study

Atkins' Transport Planning team has been appointed to study possible options for the future of the Glasgow Subway system.

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) has commissioned Atkins to undertake stakeholder consultation into long-term options for the Subway, which first opened 110 years ago. The report and recommendations are to be delivered in July.

SPT Chair, Councillor Alistair Watson said that ambitions to improve and expand the Subway were "vital to the economic drive of the city in the future".

Ideas likely to be scrutinised include possible extension of the 10km network and upgrades to the rolling stock.
