Manchester and Salford's pathfinder housing market renewal programme is to receive a further £106 million in funds.
The announcement was made today by Ruth Kelly, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
The scheme has already seen around 4,000 new homes built in the area, with many more being modernised. The new funding will help to provide for a further 1,000 new homes and modernisation of almost 2,000 more over the next two years.
The scheme will also see investment in community support projects.
Ruth Kelly said: “Not long ago some of these neighbourhoods were one step away from becoming ghost towns. Now we are beginning to see a reversal in the cycle of decline.”
