£30m regeneration allocation announced for Wales

Projects which form part of a £500m regeneration programme for the Heads of the Valley in Wales have been announced.

Speaking at a Heads of the Valley programme board meeting yesterday, the minister for enterprise, innovation and networks, Andrew Davies, announced a £30m allocation for the first three years of the 15-year Turning Heads regeneration strategy for the region.

The allocation forms part of the £140m in special funding to be provided by the Welsh Assembly to drive forward the long-term transformation of the valley communities.

It is anticipated that the remaining investment will be found from private sector funding.

The projects included in the confirmed £30m allocation will be split between areas such as the renewal of town centres and major transformational landscape-scale environmental projects.

The project list includes a £4m regeneration project at Blaenau Gwent and town centre improvements for five councils including Torfaen and Rhondda Cynon Taf.
