Tropus to project manage £180m Barnsley Markets project

Project management consultancy Tropus has been appointed to manage the £180m redevelopment of Barnsley Markets in Yorkshire.

Construction of the scheme is expected to begin in spring 2008. Plans include the relocation of Barnsley Markets into a purpose-built facility in the town centre, and development of a mixed leisure, retail, parking and residential complex.

The new market building and retail area will both be built on three levels.

The project is the first major development in the Yorkshire Forward urban regeneration programme.
