Howard Shiplee has been confirmed as the new construction director for the London Olympics.
Shiplee will take up the post with the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) in September. His responsibilities will include overseeing the construction and delivery of both permanent and temporary Olympic and Paralympic venues.
Shiplee headed up the successful redevelopment of Ascot Racecourse and the ODA hopes to benefit from this experience in its preparations for the 2012 Games. ODA chief executive David Higgins said the work at Ascot had shown “British construction at its best – first-class facilities delivered to time and to budget”.
Shiplee, 59, was formerly a director at construction consultancy High Point Rendel.
