The London Development Agency (LDA) has shortlisted six consortia for an 800 home development in East London on the site of the former St Andrew's Hospital.

Barratt and Circle Anglia Housing Association; The Berkeley Group; Countryside Properties and Swan Housing Association; Crest Nicholson and Metropolitan & Newlon Housing Associations; Genesis and London & Regional; and Urban Splash and Southern Housing Association have all made the shortlist.

Sustainability and design will be key to the project, which aims to achieve EcoHomes standards of Very Good to Excellent. The three-hectare site, near the Olympic Park development, is intended to provide much-needed family housing, with around 50% affordable housing.

The bidders have until 25 September to complete their submissions and the winning consortium should be announced by the end of the year.
