Barford has responded to the continuing problem of plant theft with a new engine immobiliser system, available as an option on its dumpers.
The Pro-Tech immobiliser system, developed in conjunction with Iveco, works using key fob recognition. Once recognition has been confirmed, the operator has 15 seconds before the dumper immobilises itself completely. Each machine has a unique key fob which can be used only with that particular dumper.
The security system, which typically costs around £500, is also designed to recalibrate security codes every time the machine and the key fob come into contact, making it extremely difficult to copy the fob.
Barford managing director Niall Wordsworth said: "Site theft is becoming a major problem and as a result, insurance problems are reaching prohibitive levels. We know this has been a problem for our customers and have been developing Pro-Tech for some time in response."
