HSE launch hand arm vibration and noise campaign

By Rebecca Froley

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) this week launched a campaign to reduce risks to workers' health from hand arm vibration and excessive noise.

Construction is one of the three priority sectors on which the HSE will focus its efforts during the campaign.

Activities in the programme will include stakeholder events and a focused inspection campaign.

With regard to hand arm vibration, the HSE says: "Inspectors will expect to see evidence of the elimination of vibration risks or of their reduction to the lowest level that is reasonably practicable. Where vibration risks remain, inspectors will be looking for evidence that the risks are being managed adequately and that suitable health surveillance is in place."

Guidance on reducing the use of and risk from vibrating equipment is available on the HSE's website.
