Eight Amec staff have been suspended on full pay and two have been arrested and released on bail following the theft of building materials believed to be worth thousands of pounds from a Corus steelworks site at Port Talbot, Wales.
South Wales Police is currently investigating the incident at the site where Amec is carrying out construction and maintenance work for Corus. Four Corus staff have also been suspended on full pay.
The exact details of the theft and when it occurred have yet to be revealed. However, a Corus spokesman told Contract Journal the company took the issue "very seriously" and added that in light of the developments it would be "reviewing its contract with Amec".
Amec confirmed the suspension of the eight Amec men and said that although it took the situation very seriously, it believed the events to be an "isolated incident".
