Three deaths on 26 July bring construction fatalities total to 19

There were three fatalities on construction sites yesterday (Tuesday) taking the total number of construction deaths for the year to 19 - a reduction on the total this time last year, which stood at 26.

 

The first fatality occurred at 12.00pm during ground clearance work at Peacock Farm on Peackock Lane, in Bracknell, Hertfordshire.

 

The 21-year-old, who was working for Essex-based main contractor Dynes Bros, died after he was crushed by a 3,000kg drag box that had been knocked over by an excavator.  

 

Local police are still leading the investigation following the incident.

 

Shortly afterwards at 12.30pm, a second man was killed after being hit by a fork lift truck at a new homes development at Hampden Hall in Wendover road, Stoke Mandeville, Aylesbury.

Details on the worker and the company involved in the incident have yet to be released.

 

The Health & Safety Executive is currently investigating at the site in Aylesbury.

In a third incident, a 58-year-old man was killed after he became trapped under earthmoving equipment while working for Nuneaton-based AR Cartwright Construction.

The Health and Safety Executive is investigating the circumstances of Ronald John Smith’s death.
