More than 100 firms were last week contacted by fraudsters posing as representatives of the Office of Government Commerce asking for confidential information.
The swindle came to light when OGC officials were contacted by project managers, QS firms, engineers and others saying they had been asked to supply financial information about their companies. They had been approached in faxes and e-mails purporting to come from the OGC in connection with their bids to join preferred procurement lists.
The OGC has put out an urgent notice to all its suppliers not to comply. Anyone who is concerned can contact its service desk on 0845 000 4999. Norwich police's economic fraud unit is investigating.
