M74 trunk road extension in Scotland up for grabs

By Brian Warner

The massive M74 trunk road extension deal in Scotland has come up for grabs for the second time.

The Fullarton Road to M8 west of Kingston Bridge deal was put on ice last year when environmental groups Friends of the Earth and JAM74 formally lodged an appeal against the scheme.

But the protestors have now backed off and Glasgow Council has just re-advertised the deal. The council is now calling for expressions of interest from contractors and it is understood that it intends to compile a shortlist of firms to bid for the scheme in October.

Originally, the deal was split into three packages, but is now going forward as a single scheme, valued at £275m.

Previous bidders included group bids from Sir Robert McAlpine/Vinci/Morgan Est and Balfour Beatty/Morrison, plus a solo bid from Laing O’Rourke.
