M74 road job readvertised

By Brian Warner

The £275m M74 trunk road extension deal in Scotland has come up for grabs for the second time.

The Fullarton Road to M8 west of Kingston Bridge deal was put on ice last year when environmental groups Friends of the Earth and JAM74 formally lodged an appeal against the scheme.

But protesters have now backed off and Glasgow Council has re-advertised the deal. The council is now calling for expressions of interest from contractors and it is understood that it intends to compile a shortlist of firms to bid for the scheme in October.

Originally, the deal was split into three packages, but it will now be a single design and construct scheme with five years maintenance liability, valued at £275m.
