National waste company HIPPOWASTE has teamed up with Wates to deliver what is thought to be the first 'zero waste to landfill' project in the UK.
The initiative, which is taking place at the government's Decent Homes project in Birmingham's Sandwell borough, marks part of Wates' 'Target Zero' campaign to help tackle the annual 70,000t of non-hazardous waste produced during the construction and demolition process.
All waste collected from the project by HIPPOWASTE will be taken to a licensed waste transfer station for comprehensive analysis where it will be determined whether the materials can be reused. Previously, it would have been sent straight for landfill.
