Destructive digger-driver pleads guilty

A 53-year-old Essex man has pleaded guilty to demolishing a house and damaging cars with a 13t Daewoo excavator, after calmly hiring it from a local plant hire firm.

Robert Taylor, who appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court, admitted to destroying the house in Bradwell-on-Sea in June, as well as being reckless as to whether life was endangered.

Taylor also admitted destroying or damaging two vehicles and a police car as well as assaulting a policeman.

Sentencing has been adjourned until October for a psychiatric report to be prepared.
