Leicester City Council has lined up three contractors it plans to draw on to carry out at least £38m- worth of building work over the next four years under a framework agreement. Galliford Try, Interserve and Derby-based GF Tomlinson have hit the jackpot for work, which will mainly involve schools, but could include other council-owned buildings. such as libraries.
The contractors were chosen with equal emphasis given to price and quality. The work will be mainly focused on refurb and extension work, with small-scale new build, such as the first scheme to come up for grabs -- a new library at Braunstone on the outskirts of Leicester, expected to start on site in January. As each contract surfaces, the council will set up a mini-tender competition to determine who should carry out the work.
The individual deals will be worth between £200,000 and £1m.
