Cemex to build London facility

Cemex has announced plans for a new grinding and blending facility for the manufacturing of blended cements at Tilbury Docks near London.

The new plant, with an annual capacity of 1.2m tonnes, will cost £27m and is planned to be operational in the first half of 2008. The location of the new mill is designed to take advantage of demand created both by infrastructural developments in the Thames Gateway and the Olympics.

The plant will mainly be dedicated to the production of the CEM3 blend of traditional cement and slag in a 50:50 ratio. Compared to other products with a higher traditional cement content, this could result in a 50% saving in CO2 emissions.
