Caledonian Building Systems enjoys surge in pre-tax profit to £15m

By John Leitch

Caledonian Building Systems, the modular building contractor, has almost doubled its pre-tax profit to £15m.

Five months ago, Caledonian was bought by Champion, the largest modular builder in North America, with a turnover of £800m.

Caledonian’s annual results (12 months to 7 April 2006) show turnover higher at £90m (£80m). Last year’s pre-tax profit ran to £8m.

Caledonian operates both as main contractor and modular specialist subcontractor. It manufactures multi-storey accommodation buildings and the deal with Champion has brought in sufficient funds to allow the manufacturing site in Newark to be expanded.

Caledonian’s results highlight various KPI (key performance indicator) performances. One of these shows that the operating cash flow to operating profit (expressed as a percentage) rose to 82% (76%).
