Carillion wins Cornwall college work

Carillion has edged ahead of rivals Interserve and Midas to graduate onto a £20m college scheme in Cornwall. The design and construct job, for the county council, involves predominantly new-build work on the 8.2 ha Penryn College site.

The centrepiece of the project is a new 8,000m22 building, plus remodelling the playing fields to include either one or two all-weather pitches. When the new facility comes on stream, the present college building will be demolished.

Planning consent is expected early in the new year, with work on site kicking off by the middle of 2007. A project insider said: “The ideal completion date is September 2008, but come what may, the contract has to be completed by the end of 2008 at the very latest.”
