Amec bags Suffolk College job

Amec has registered a £60m education-sector hit in Suffolk. The firm will redevelop Suffolk College under a two-stage tender process, with work on site due to start in January, for delivery within 18 months. Pitches from four rivals for the design and build deal by- Carillion, Kier, Laing O’Rourke and local contractor RG Carter - have now been expelled. The job involves a new college of up to four storeys and spanning 22,000m2 around the waterfront in Ipswich. The task also includes knocking down the present college when the new one comes on stream.

  • Laing O’Rourke is to build the first phase of a university campus deal on the southern half of the Suffolk College site, with work due to start in February, for completion in September 2008.
