Two Stratford DLR deals move on to next phase

Two major projects totalling up to £150m on London’s Docklanmds Light Railway (DLR) system have taken a big shunt forward.

Both deals centre on Stratford International station. Five contractors are set to pick up the tender paperwork for a deal worth between £80m and -£100m; and only two outfits are now left on the rails for the second scheme, valued at between £30m and -£50m.

The line-up for the former project, which is known as works package 6, is Amec, Taylor Woodrow, Costain, Hochtief and Skanska.

And the latter two firms are the only ones chasing works package 8. The client has now derailed pitches from Carillion and Amec –- the two other firms that worked up bids for the deal.

Package 6 involves converting the existing Network Rail corridor between Canning Town and Stratford to the DLR network and extending the DLR to Stratford Iinternational.

Work on the package 8 deal involves building an island platform for North London Line (NNL) passengers terminating at Stratford.

The scheme also includes laying 600m of new track and realigning 300m of existingexisiting NLL track –- known as the High Meads Loop –- to run DLR trains.
