Crane jib fails on Sir Robert McAlpine site

A crane jib has failed on Sir Robert McAlpine’s commercial development at New Street Square in Holborn, London.

The Health & Safety Executive denied reports that there had been a crane collapse and told CJ that inspectors were making their way to the site following the incident at around 10am.

There are no reports of any injuries and no one at Sir Robert McAlpine was available for comment when contacted by CJ.

The design and build project at New Street Square involves the replacement of an assortment of post-war office blocks with a contemporary commercial development.

The final development, which will provide 92,000m2 of office accommodation, includes five buildings ranging in height from a single storey to a 17-storey tower block.
