Toyota adds cab extension to 4x4 pick-up

By Colin Sowman

Toyota has added an Extra Cab version to its range of Hilux 4x4 pick-ups. The extended two-door cab has space for two occasional passengers or additional secure storage, while retaining 1.8m of loadbed length – down from 2.3m on the basic version, but still 285mm longer than the double cab.

Another first for the Extra Cab is the use of the new 2.5-litre engine, which pushes out 8% more power (at 75kW) than its predecessor and develops 325Nm of torque – a 25% increase. An uprated 3-litre engine will be available from January for the higher-spec, double-cab versions.

A restyled bonnet featuring an intercooler bulge is being adopted across the range, while the chassis and suspension have undergone significant reworking to improve ride and handling.

The Extra Cab, available from 1 November, has an on-the-road price of £14,870 ex VAT.
