Equipment rental group Ashtead has paid more than £15m for Lux Traffic Controls as it expands its specialist products division.
The acquisition, which will be incorporated into A-Plant’s existing Traffic depots and called A-Plant Lux Traffic Control & Management, gives the company 50 dedicated traffic locations. It will be market leader in the sector with an estimated share of 20%-22%.
Latest financial results for Lux, covering the 12 months to 31 July 2006, show a turnover of £19m, from which Lux extracted a profit of £900,000.
The move sees A-Plant’s Specialist Products Division swell even further (it also includes: Accommodation; Acrow False-work and Formwork; Powered Access; Rail and Power Generation and Welding).
A-Plant chief executive Sat Dhaiwal told CJ that he felt Lux was a good fit, offering hardly any overlap between his company’s depots and its own.
He indicated that there were opportunities for significant expansion over the next 12 to 18 months, particularly with variable roadside messaging boards, which he felt Lux had left underdeveloped.
“There is a lot we can do with our existing customer base,” he said.
