Regional development agency Advantage West Midlands has given the proposed £6.3m advanced construction technology and training centre the go-ahead.
Construction of the ACT-UK National centre for Advanced Construction Technologies at Coventry University Technology Park is expected to start in spring 2007. The centre is expected to open in spring 2008.
The centre will offer training and induction courses from primary school level through to advanced management training for experienced construction staff and professionals. A key feature of the centre will be the Building Management Simulation Centre - a large virtual reality simulation theatre that will recreate a site environment and use actors to create b'real life' scenarios for training and developing construction managers.
Construction companies and associations can invest in ACT-UK and play a role in dictating its direction.
