Milton Keynes Partnership is calling on interested developers to contribute their views on Tattenhoe Park, the country's first "flexible homes" development, after it was granted outline planning consent.
Tattenhoe Park will provide over 1,300 new homes, 30% of which will be affordable, to the west of Milton Keynes.
The homes will be built with future extension and adaptation in mind, and could include features such as open plant layouts or rooms with partition walls that can be removed or repositioned. The homes will sit alongside other "standard homes" on the 59ha site, which will also set aside 2,000m2 of space for shops, businesses and a primary school.
Milton Keynes chief operating officer Jane Hamilton said: "We are currently working on a technical assessment of "flexible" housing and would be happy to release draft details of this to interested architects and developers who might wish to contribute their views at this early stage."
