Injury rates at specialist contractors lower than industry average

Fatal and major injury rates for specialist contractors are now lower than those of the industry, according to the National Specialist Contractors’ Council (NSCC).

In a survey of over 2,100 specialist contractors, the NSCC fatal injury rate was 2.6 per 100,000 workers compared with the industry rate of 3.0 per 100,000 workers. The NSCC’s major injury rate is 269.1 per 100,000 workers compared with 310.2 per 100,000 workers for the industry.

NSCC figures for 2005/06 also show a drop in the rates of major and over-3-day injuries compared with its results from last year (32% and 7% respectively), in spite of a substantial increase in the reporting of incidents to NSCC.

The 2005/06 NSCC accident survey was the biggest yet. The collation of accident information is now a requirement of NSCC membership.
