Stefanou and Rogers lead New Year Honours list

Stef Stefanou, chairman of John Doyle Group, and Peter Rogers, Stanhope director, were among the 11 construction industry-related players to be recognised in the New Year honours.

Stefanou received the OBE for services to the construction industry, while Rogers gained a CBE, also for services to the construction industry.

CBEs were also awarded to: Professor Haig Gulvanessian, formerly a director of the Building Research Establishment, for services to the construction industry; and Roger Madelin, joint chief executive of 
Argent Group, for services to sustainable development.

OBEs were awarded to:

  • Kyle Alexander, chief executive of the Laganside Corporation, for services to regeneration in Northern Ireland.
  • Debbie Coulter, GMB deputy general secretary, for services to employment relations.
  • James Gill, Liverpool Vision chief executive, for services to regeneration.
  • Alun Griffiths, founder of Alun Griffiths, for services to the construction industry and to the community in Wales.
  • Kevin O’Sullivan, chairman of consulting engineers O’Sullivan and Graham, for services to civil engineering overseas.
  • Irene Spellman, chief executive of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, for services to workplace learning.

Finally, an MBE was awarded to Philip Russell, a management board member of the Workers’ Safety Adviser Challenge Fund, for services to health and safety in the construction industry.
