Ennstone pays £4.6m for Handyman Concrete

Ennstone has bought Handyman Concrete in a £4.6m move that expands Ennstone’s presence in America.

Vaughan McLeod, Ennstone chairman said: “This is a good strategic acquisition as Handyman’s location means that it will expand our coverage into the important Washington DC market. It can be supplied from the group’s existing sand and gravel quarries in Fredericksburg.

“The acquisition benefits from a strong asset base with valuable freehold land which the group will look to exploit.”

Handyman is a manufacturer and supplier of ‘small load’ ready-mixed concrete to contractors.

It has a new manufacturing facility at Chantilly, close to Washington Dulles airport producing 50,000m3 of concrete a year. It has planning consent to develop a further plant in Lorton, Virginia. Last year’s turnover of £4m generated a profit of £300,000.
