Wrekin Construction, which dived into the red two years ago, has lost its leader.
John Worthington, brought in as chief executive to sort out the group’s troubles, is no longer at the helm.
“He has left us,” said Dr Simon Frain, the family-owned group’s chairman. “It was a surprise to us. I’m fulfilling the role at the moment.
“We will be looking for a replacement and we already have headhunters on the case. The remit is to find someone suitable to run a mid-size construction business.”
Wrekin’s latest financial results, covering the 15-month period to 31 March 2006, show turnover at £130m. There was a profit of £780,000, representing a margin of 0.6%.
In the previous 12 months, Wrekin suffered a pre-tax loss of £2.6m on turnover of £110m.
Frain declined to offer any comment on Wrekin’s recent record on profit-making.
He rejected the view that the family interferes in the running of the business, stating that Wrekin’s chief executives are treated fairly.
