Man killed after crane collapse in Liverpool

Liverpool crane collapse, Liverpool Daily Post & EchoA workman was killed and another seriously injured after a crane collapsed at a Liverpool building site yesterday.

The accident occurred at around 4pm on Monday on Seel Street in Liverpool, at the Elysian Fields development where work was being carried out by David McLean contractors.

The crane is reported to have fallen 40m, crushing a man who was working below. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The operator was rescued from his cab three storeys above the ground, escaping with a shoulder injury. He was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital where his condition is described as stable.

Merseyside Police confirmed that it would be assisting the Health & Safety Executive in its investigation into the collapse.

David McLean had no comment to make, but is expected to issue a statement later today.
