MCG makes smooth switch to CPCS cards

The deadline for general plant operators on Major Contractors Group (MCG) members' sites to hold Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) cards has passed with few problems.

MCG member Costain said it has turned away a few people for not possessing the right cards and there are a small number of cases where other cards are being used, but negotiations are being held to ensure a total focus on one system.

Edmund Nuttall, part of HBG group, made the point that it had been effectively been insisting on CPCS cards for some time, so the 1 Jan deadline was inconsequential.

Members of the Construction Plant-hire Association have not reported difficulties to its chief executive Colin Wood and IPAF managing director Tim Whiteman said he had not received reports of problems with the IPAF card, which is recognised by the MCG for access equipment.
