Aircrete blocks from H+H Celcon

Aircrete blocks from H+H Celcon, combined with the company's quick-setting, thin-joint system, have been used on a £9m housing association project at Kensal Road, London W10.

Specification of a Modern Method of Construction is a condition for Housing Association funding and the thin-joint system, employed by contractor Durkan at the Octavia Housing and Care project, fulfilled this requirement.

Contract manager Paul Shadbolt of Durkan was impressed with the speed of the system. "It's very easy," he explained. "The Celfix mortar sets very quickly and we achieved a high quality of construction that is excellent strength-wise. It's also a low-waste product."

A demonstration of Celcon's thin-joint system can be seen in the British Precast Demonstration Zone as part of Futurebuild (27 February to 1 March 2007, Earls Court 2). It will cover compliance will building regulations, the build process and the role of Celcon's recommended contractors.
