Derby Council has gone for the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) route to procure a £16m rebuild task in the city.
The project centres on the fire-ravaged Sinfin Community School and within the next few weeks the council is expected to firm-up its final bid list of between three to five contenders.
Work on the design and build scheme will start later this year, with the new school due to open in September 2008.
The school burnt down about 10 months ago, and the cause of the blaze remains a mystery.
