Cemex Rugby plant protest goes to Lords

Following Cemex's failure to challenge the carbon dioxide allocation to its Rugby plant in the High Court, protesters fighting for the plant's closure have won the chance to take their case to the House of Lords.

The protesters, known as Rugby in Plume, object to the aggregate giant's planned burning of chipped tyres as a partial substitute for other fuels. The Environment Agency is expected to decide on the initiative within the next few weeks.

Rugby in Plume said it would now use the Lords hearing to attempt to shut the plant down, claiming it is in breach of planning regulations.
