Felt roofers are set to receive an above inflation pay rise thanks to a national two-year pay deal negotiated by Amicus.
The national pay agreement will mean that over 5,000 construction workers in the felt roofing sector will receive a 7.8% increase in 2007 followed by 5.5% in 2008. The deal has yet to be agreed by members but Amicus is confident that it will be accepted.
Amicus national officer John Allott said: “This offer is well above inflation and we will be seeking member’s acceptance. It shows that employers have to substantially improve pay to recruit and retain skilled construction workers.“
He added: “We hope that this offer will set a benchmark for other sectors in construction that are coming up for negotiations this year.”
