The Hire Association Europe (HAE) has updated its 'traffic light' system for indicating the vibration levels of hand tools.
Introducing the new system at the Executive Hire Show, HAE technical officer Kevin Minton said it is viable and practical for hirer companies.
In place of a single red, amber or green marking, each tool will carry all three symbols.
The 'red' area will be marked with the time taken for an operator to reach the Exposure Limit Value - the maximum 'dose' of vibration allowed in an eight-hour shift that must not be exceeded. The 'green' area will show the time to reach the Exposure Action Value - the level beyond which steps must be taken to reduce exposure.
