The Daily Telegraph reports that HM Revenue & Customs has been branded “rudderless” by a Commons select committee because the department has been without a chairman for five months.

The Times adds that the London Civic Forum has waded into the Olympic costs debate by writing to culture secretary Tessa Jowell stating that the Games should not be funded at the expense of the vulnerable and those in need.

The Guardian reports that British Energy has called on partners to help build a new generation of nuclear power plants by 2016. The company made its pitch after reporting a doubling of nine-monthly pre-tax profit to £622m.

The Daily Mail claims that a group of cowboy builders netted £250,000 by telling pensioners that they carried out roof repairs on their homes when in fact all they used was a pot of red paint.
