Network Rail lifts ban on Carillion

Network Rail has now lifted its ban on Carillion which prevented the firm for bidding for any new rail work.

The ban was imposed in August 2006 following concerns of a deteriorating workforce safety record.

However, a recent detailed workforce safety audit of Carillion Rail's operation and an improving workforce safety record has led to Network Rail lifting the ban.

Simon Kirby, director of major projects & investment, said: "As a result of Carillion Rail's improving position on workforce safety and the changes they have made, we have decided to lift the suspension and allow the company to bid for new tenders.

"As part of our drive to improve safety on the railway, we will maintain the close monitoring of Carillion Rail's ongoing progress in relation to health and safety culture and performance."

Meanwhile, Carillion has sealed a £60m five-year signalling deal with Network Rail for the South East region.
