The market for MEWPs continues to grow astronomically, according to research by the official IPAF magazine Access International.
The three leading manufacturers all enjoyed record international sales: Genie reported a 45% increase to £815m; JLG rose by a third to £713m; while Haulotte increased 50% to £349m. Europe-wide, there was a 30% rise in sales.
In the UK, the self-propelled fleet (booms and scissors) is now 40,000 strong, up around 25% on last year. Growth at the smaller end has cooled a little, with high demand expected among vehicle mounts (currently 500 to 700 strong) and van mounts (around 1,000 strong).
Growth is expected to continue. “The demand is as strong as we’ve ever seen,” said one rental company.
