RMT members strike over Metronet staff transfers

Over 2,000 Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) members will strike for three days in a dispute over Metronet's plans to transfer 250 of its workers to parent company Bombardier Transportation.

The union revealed that the maintenance workers, employed by Metronet, would walk out for 72 hours from 6pm on Sunday after negotiations ended without a deal.

It added that it would institute an indefinite overtime ban from 22 April.

The dispute centres around the RMT's concerns that it had not received sufficient assurances that the employees - mostly managerial and technical specialists - would not see their terms and conditions affected by the transfer.

Metronet called on the RMT to cancel its planned strike action, claiming it was unnecessary and unwarranted.
