E4D&G consortium seals £100m schools PPP

By Ross Pearman

The Education for Dumfries and Galloway (E4D&G) consortium [Amey and Cyril Sweett] has been announced as preferred bidder for the revamped £100m Smarter Schools Project PPP.

The scheme for Dumfries & Galloway Council had to be rescoped and readvertised last year after attracting only one bidder.

The Smarter Schools Project aims to regenerate Dumfries and Galloway's schools estate to provide the highest quality learning environment across the area.

The scheme will see nine new schools built and another refurbished and extended.

Construction is scheduled to start in October 2007. The first new school to be opened is expected to be completed in the summer of 2009.

The work on each of the schools will be done on a phased basis but with several schools being constructed simultaneously.
