An inquest was opened into the death of Anthony John Lockey, killed on a John Laing site last week, by the Wiltshire coroner on Monday.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is currently underway. The HSE is examining footage filmed on the School’s CCTV system, trying to establish whether the clutch on the digger could have failed. This investigation is likely to continue for many months before a full inquest can be heard in front of a jury.
Lockey, 48, of Pinehurst Road, was crushed against a wall while directing a colleague reversing a mechanical digger; it is believed he was crushed between the machinery and the concrete wall.
The incident took place on Wednesday the 20th of June at Red Oak’s primary school in Redhouse, Swindon, where John Laing subsidiary Equion FM was building a storage shed.
